Abstract: The γ-radiation method has been succesfully used to prepare ultrafine powders of Cu-Pd alloy from the solution containing Cu(NH3)2+4 and Pd(NH3)2+4 complex ions. Influences of experimental conditions on the formation of Cu-Pd alloy are discussed. It is discovered that it is beneficial to the formation of Cu-Pd alloy when the concentration of Cu(NH3)2+4 is less than 0.009 kmol/m3, the ratio of Cu(NH3)2+4/Pd(NH3)2+4 is larger than 2∶1 and pH>9. The lower the concentration of the mixed solution is, the less the required irradiation dose on the formation of Cu-Pd alloy is. The effect of the concentration of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA, a surfactant) on the particle size of Cu-Pd alloy is not obvious under our experimental conditions.
