| Abstract: This article has reviewed the latest advances in neurodegenerative diseases, focusing on their relationship with mitochondrial dysfunction and free radical damage.The latest research advances on the functional mimics of Mn-SOD as promising therapeutic agents to neurodegenerative diseases are summarized.The Mn-SOD mimics possess several advantages over native enzymes on stability, efficacy and toxicity.Progress in the field is heavily dependent on the understanding of the chemical bases of the diseases and the discovery of novel protective and therapeutic agents. |
