Abstract: A novel bowl-like dinuclear complex [Y2(L)(HL)(NO3)6(HCOO)]·3CH3OH [L=1,3,5-tris(imidazole-1-ylmethyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene] (1) was synthesized by slow evaporation in the desiccator. The complex has been characterized by elementary analysis, FT-IR, electrospray mass spectrometry and X-ray single crystal diffraction. It reveals that the complex is orthorhombic with Pnnm space group, a=1.952 42(15) nm, b=1.875 28(19) nm, c=1.682 25(15) nm, V=6.159 3(10) nm3, Z=4. In complex 1, two independent Y(Ⅲ) are both nine-coordinated and bridged by formate, and two ligands coordinating as bidentate ligand to Y(Ⅲ) adopt different confirmations, one is cis, cis, cis, the other is cis, trans, trans.
