Abstract: Two complexes Zn(dmapa)(dbm)2 (1) and Cd(dmapa)(dbm)2 (2) (dmapa=3-dimenthylaminopropylamine, Hdbm=dibenzoylmethane) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, TGA and X-ray single crystal structure analysis. Complex 1 is of monoclinic, space group P21/n with a=1.142 0(2) nm, b=1.623 0(3) nm, c=1.744 8(4) nm, β=99.31(3)°, V=3.192(1) nm3 and Z=4. Complex 2 is of triclinic, space group P1 with a=1.174 (2) nm, b=1.238 5(3) nm, c=1.327 3(3) nm, α=66.85(3)°, β=86.96(3)°, γ=62.71(3)°, V=1.558 4(6) nm3, Z=2. Both complexes are mononuclear complexes with the metal center Zn(Ⅱ) or Cd(Ⅱ) coordinated by four O atoms from two dbm- ligands and two N atoms from one dmapa ligand, adopting distorted octahedral coordination geometries.
