Abstract: Two new one-dimensional coordination polymers, [CdL(2,2′-bipy)]n·nH2O (1) and [CdL(2,2′-bipy)(H2O)]n·4nH2O (2) (H2L=1,3-adamantanediacetic acid, 2,2′-bipy=2,2′-bipyridine), have been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 belongs to triclinic system, space group P1 with a=1.037 2(1) nm, b=1.043 2(1) nm, c=1.090 7(1) nm, α=90.616(4)°, β=92.526(4)°, γ=108.756(4)°, V=1.116 0(1) nm3, Z=2, Mr=536.88, F(000)=548, Dc=1.598 g·cm-3, μ=1.017 mm-1, the final R=0.022 0 and wR=0.054 9 for 4 834 observed reflections (I>2σ(I)). Complex 2 belongs to monoclinic system, space group P21/n with a=1.366 3(1) nm, b=1.413 2(1) nm, c=1.510 2(1) nm, β=114.611(2)°, V=2.651 1(1) nm3, Z=4, Mr=608.95, F(000)=1 256, Dc=1.526 g·cm-3, μ=0.877 mm-1, the final R=0.030 1 and wR=0.071 2 for 4 592 observed reflections (I>2σ(I)). The cadmium ion is seven-coordinated in a distorted monocapped triangular prismatic arrangement for 1 and in a distorted pentagonal-bipyramidal arrangement for 2, and 1,3-adamantanediacetic acids act as the bridge to link the cadmiums to 1D chains. Non-covalent interactions, such as hydrogen-bonding and aromatic π-π interactions, lead the complexes to supramolecular architectures. The luminescent property for 1 has also been studied.
